Shade Gardening with Native Plants

With Donna Lassiter

Learn the principles of shade gardening and selection of shade tolerant plants. Light intensity, soil conditions, water, and other applicable plant needs are examined, including some design aspects. In Westchester we live in the “Northeast Forest Biome,” and shade plants play a large and important part in the health and beauty of our natural landscape. Donna Lassiter will showcase many of her favorite native species (with lots of photos of plants she’s grown), their benefits for the environment and cultural needs for growing them with success. You’ll also see photos of some gardens that Donna has designed and mentored over the years.  She hopes that you will be inspired!

About the Speaker: Donna Lassiter is a CCE Master Gardener Volunteer who has designed public demonstration and school gardens with a focus on native plants for birds, pollinators and meadow gardening. She is committed to promoting a healthy environment and grows over 90 species of native plants in her home gardens.
