This month we are holding a Bench Show.  "What is a Bench Show?" you may ask. It is meant to be a very casual introductory flower show for just our club. We hope everyone will participate! Some resources are listed below.  There will be a flower show and luncheon beginning at 11:30.  Please contact Fran or Nancy to let them know what you will be bringing to the lunch (Franbgardner@gmail.com or Nancyinbrazil@yahoo.com).

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM SCHEDULE FOR OUR SHOW? See this document:

CHAPPAQUA GARDEN CLUB Bench Show May 2024 (2).docx

Drop off flower show entries between 5-7:00PM on Tuesday evening (5/14) or 8:00-9:00AM on Wednesday morning (5/15) at the First Congregational Church.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR ENTERING:

You must sign up ahead for section l and section lll by May 10th by e-mailing Karen Scharf at KarenScharf5@gmail.com.  Horticulture does not need any sign up.

MaryLynn McRee, Karen Scharf, Chris Wolff, and Melanie Smith Klein are happy to answer any questions about the bench show.

HOW DO I LEARN WHAT TO DO?

There will be a Floral workshop for Traditional Mass Design.  April 25 at 7PM- Mary Lynn McRee's house (89 Cross Ridge Road).  Please register separately for this event.  You can access it via the calendar on the Chappaqua Garden Club website.

Handbook for Flower Shows may be accessed for free online as follows:

  1. Go to the NGC website Gardenclub.org
  2. Tap on the navigation bar on the upper right side of the page and then tap on Schools.
  3. Under Schools tap flower show school and then scroll down to flower show school resources. Once you tap that link you will have online access to the Handbook online for free.

The Handbook has chapters on each type of exhibit commonly found in a flower show.

Chapter Six has the rules for exhibiting Horticulture, Chapter Seven covers Designs and includes descriptions of each type of design, and Chapter Ten contains Botanical Arts information.

The Handbook also has a chapter on “What Judges Look For” and a chapter on the scales of points for each type of exhibit.

YOU CAN ALSO COME AS A SPECTATOR, but it is more fun to enter your design and/or horticulture specimen!
