Chappaqua Children's Book Festival (09/26/2026)

The Chappaqua Children's Book Festival is back for the 13th year, and the garden club is proud to have a booth! Join us under the tent to talk to members of the public about the club and field gardening questions.

The event runs 10-4, but we plan to only be present until 2pm. Any time you can give to help out is welcomed! And of course, if you are walking the event, be sure to stop by and say hello.

SENIORS/Garden Therapy Weekly Meeting (09/29/2026)

Join us Tuesdays from 12:00-1:00 PM for the Senior Gardening Program behind the New Castle Community Center at 10 Senter Street.

Throughout the season, we will plant, maintain, and harvest a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers for participants to take home. The program is open to all seniors, but sessions are weather-dependent. If in doubt, please contact the Community Center at 914-238-8888 for clarification. This program is a partnership of the Chappaqua Garden Club and the New Castle Recreation and Parks Department.

You do not have to be an experienced Flower Show exhibitor to participate. Whether you enjoy floral design, grow & display beautiful flowers and plants, enjoy botanical arts, or like photography, there is an opportunity for you to enter.

SECTION A - DESIGN

Class 1. Majestic Redwoods - Parallel Design (HB p. 75). Staged on a white pedestal 40 inches high; top measures 24 inches wide by 20 inches deep. Allotted space is 35 inches wide by 25 inches deep. Underlay permitted to the edge. Background is white. To be viewed from the front.

Class 2. Corn Maze - Multi-Rhythmic Design (HB p. 75). Staged on a black pedestal 40 inches high; top measures 16 inches wide by 16 inches deep. Allotted space is 25 inches wide by 25 inches deep. Underlay permitted to the edge. Background is white. To be viewed from the front.

Class 3. Apple Orchard - Creative Mass Design (HB p. 74). Staged on a black pedestal 42 1/2 inches high with a 16-inch square top. Allotted space is 25 inches wide by 25 inches deep. Design may extend beyond the top surface of the pedestal. Underlay permitted to the edge. Background is a white wall. To be viewed from the front.

SECTION B - PETITE DESIGNS

Prefer working on a smaller scale? Our Petite Design classes may be just for you - with designs limited to 8, 10 or 12 inches. Interested in entering a class in this section?

Class 4. Hayride - 12-inch Petite Assemblage Design (HB p. 77). Staged on a fireplace mantel 60 inches long by 5.5 inches deep by 54 inches high. Allotted space is 12 inches high by 12 inches wide by 5 inches deep. Staging panel permitted: 12 inches wide by 5 inches deep by 12 inches high. Underlay permitted. Background is white. To

be viewed from the front.

Class 5. Rambling Brook - 8-inch Underwater Design (HB p. 79). Staged on the white shelf 55 inches off the ground. Allotted space is 8 inches high by 8 inches wide by 8 inches deep. Underlay and staging panel are required. Background is white. To be viewed from the front.

Class 6. Pumpkin Patch - 10-inch Transparency Design (HB p. 77). Staged on a 10-inch-wide by 10-inch-deep black pedestal standing on a white window ledge. Total height is 38 inches off the ground. Underlay 10 inches wide by 10 inches deep required. Staging panel permitted. To be viewed from the front.

SECTION C - TABLE SETTINGS

Do you enjoy setting a beautiful table? Section C combines floral design with the art of entertaining. Create an outdoor table for two, an exhibition table, or a breakfast tray for one. Choose the class that inspires you and have fun bringing your interpretation to the table!

Class 7. By the Pond's Edge - an Al Fresco Table Design for Two (HB pp. 76-77). Dining outdoors with any degree of formality. Staged on a card table 34 inches square by 29 inches high. White tablecloth to the floor provided by committee. Overlay required. To be viewed from all sides. A decorative unit (completed floral design) must be included. A container plant is not a design.

Class 8. Wild Flower Meadow - an Exhibition Table Design (HB pp. 76-77). Staged on a table 120 inches long by 30 inches high. Allotted space is 25 inches deep by 25 inches wide. Black tablecloth to the floor provided by committee. Underlay permitted. To be viewed from the front.

Class 9. Herb Garden - Breakfast Tray for One (HB pp. 76-77). Staged on a tray 13.5 inches wide by 19.5 inches long. Set on a table 30 inches high with black tablecloth. Tray will be provided by committee. Allotted space 24 inches long by 16 inches wide. Underlay required. Background is white. To be viewed from the front. A decorative

unit (completed floral design) must be included. A container plant is not a design.

SECTION D - CHALLENGE CLASS

Ready for a fun challenge? Pumpkin Party gives every designer the same components - and then lets your creativity take over! You'll create your design on-site and see how differently each designer interprets the same materials. Advance registration is required by September 22. Class 10. Pumpkin Party - a Challenge Class (HB p. 78). Is not eligible for the Designers Choice Award. Advance registration is required by September 15 with the Design Chair. The Design Chair will supply identical components to the designers. Designers will provide their own tools. Designers will design on site Thursday, October 1 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Staged on a black riser 10 inches high by 12 inches square that sits on a table 30 inches high covered by a white cloth. Not all provided materials have to be used. Underlay not permitted. Background is white. To be viewed from the front.

DIVISION II - HORTICULTURE

You don't need to be an experienced Flower Show exhibitor to enter Horticulture. Take a look around your garden, patio, or home - you may already be growing a potential Flower Show entry!

Our Horticulture Division includes opportunities to exhibit annuals, perennials, herbs, foliage, tree and shrub branches, succulents and cacti, fruits and vegetables, container-grown plants, and collections.

You don't have to grow something unusual or exotic. If you're excited about something you're growing, take a look at the classes below and see where it might fit. A Flower Show isn't just about beautiful exhibits - it's also an opportunity to educate and inspire our visitors. The Education Division gives us a chance to share important information about gardening, horticulture, the environment, and the natural world with the hundreds of people who will visit Autumn Splendor. Exhibit 2. "Pollinator Pathways: Connecting Communities, Protecting Pollinators" This educational exhibit celebrates the Pollinator Pathway initiative, a grassroots effort to establish pesticide free corridors of native plants across our communities. By connecting fragmented green spaces in public areas and private yards, these pathways restore essential foraging and nesting habitats for bees, butterflies, and other vital insects. Visitors will learn how they can support pollinator health right in their own neighborhoods.

DIVISION IV - BOTANICAL ARTS & ARTISTIC CRAFTS

LET YOUR CREATIVITY TAKE OVER!

Love flowers, plants, crafts, or photography - but traditional floral design isn't your thing? Botanical Arts gives you another fun way to be part of Autumn Splendor. Create a decorated gift box, a wearable hat, or an artistic collage - or enter one of our photography

classes. There's plenty of room to use your imagination and create something uniquely your own. Take a look at the classes below and find one that sparks an idea. Then give it a try!

Class 1. Let's Party - A decorated gift box. Exhibit must be decorated with fresh or dried plant material. No artificial plant material may be used (HB pp. 94-95). The box will be provided by the committee. It is a standard corrugated cardboard shipping box 10 inches long by 7 inches wide by 4 inches high. Allotted space 24 inches long by 16

inches wide. Underlay not permitted. Staged on a 30-inch-high table with a white tablecloth. To be viewed from all sides.

Class 2. Secret Garden - A wearable hat supplied by the committee (HB p. 95). Displayed on an adult-sized gold Styrofoam head. Staged on a round table in the center of a room, 44 inches in diameter and 30 inches from the floor. Underlay not permitted. To be viewed from all sides.

Class 3. Color Explosion - 14 inches high by 11 inches wide collage. A non-realistic abstract design (HB p. 93). Canvas board will be provided by the committee. Displayed vertically on a plate stand provided by the committee. Staged on a table 30 inches high. Underlay not permitted. White tablecloth to the floor provided by the committee.

SECTION B - PHOTOGRAPHY

DO YOU LOVE TAKING PICTURES? HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE PART OF THE SHOW!

You don't have to be a professional photographer - or even an experienced Flower Show exhibitor - to enter. If you enjoy taking pictures of beautiful places, water scenes, or flowers, you may already have the perfect photograph! Choose from Countryside, Babbling Brook, or In the Autumn Garden and share one of your favorite photographs with everyone who visits Autumn Splendor. And here's the fun part: Photography entries will be selected by People's Choice! Our Flower Showvisitors will have the opportunity to choose their favorites. Chappaqua Garden Club Tour of Gilbertie's Organics

Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of Gilbertie's Organics, one of the country's oldest certified organic growers and where the CGC sources herbs and veggies for our May Plant Sale, on Tuesday, October 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Located at 65 Adam's Road, Easton, CT, this tour will take us through the history and daily operations of this family-owned farm, which has been growing organically since 1922.

During our visit, we'll learn about:

The history of Gilbertie's Organics and its 100+ year legacy.
How microgreens are grown and harvested.
The process of growing and fulfilling orders for potted plants.
What it means to be a certified organic farm.
Gilbertie's unique innovations, including their patented plant tags.
Visit to their witch hazel growing area.
A visit to the soil barn to learn about the foundation of healthy plant growth.

Whether you're an experienced gardener or simply curious about sustainable growing practices, this tour offers a wonderful opportunity to learn, ask questions, and gain inspiration for your own garden.

Join us in making Wreath at the Amsterdam Park on Dec 3^rd ,4^th & 5^th. Please bring wire cutters and garden clippers. Also, on or before December 2nd, please donate various cut conifers to make the wreaths.
