Fritillaria meleagris. Aka snakes head fritillary, a disturbing common name but an interesting early blooming bulb for part shade and evenly moist soil. The nodding bell shaped flowers are checkered purple (with an occasional white flower) and provides an early nectar source for bees and other early emerging insects. Deer resistant but susceptible to voles and gophers.
